Sony revealed August's PS Plus Essential trio a day early (Dying Light 2 Reloaded, the day-one co-op title Big Walk, and the acclaimed horror Signalis), Zenless Zone Zero's second anniversary hands out a free S-Rank agent today as it launches on Xbox PC, Foretales and Yet Another Zombie Defense HD enter their final day free-to-keep, and the Mound DLC giveaway ends this morning.
PS Plus August Essential: Dying Light 2, Big Walk day-one, and Signalis
Sony revealed August's lineup on the PlayStation Blog yesterday, a day ahead of schedule. Three games are free for all PS Plus members (Essential, Extra, and Premium) from Tuesday, August 4 through Monday, August 31:
- Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition (PS5, PS4). Techland's 2022 open-world zombie parkour sandbox, Metacritic 76 Generally Favorable across 62 critic reviews, Steam Mostly Positive at 78% of 68,000-plus reviews. The Reloaded Edition bundles the big Firearms Update, every post-launch patch, and the Bloody Ties story DLC (a free upgrade for anyone who already owned the standard edition). Up to four-player co-op. A nice double-feature with the original Dying Light, which just landed on PS Plus Extra yesterday.
- Big Walk (PS5). The standout: a day-one release straight onto PS Plus, from House House, the Melbourne studio behind Untitled Goose Game. A co-op adventure "about talking to your friends," built around communication puzzles across an open world. No critic consensus yet because it launches August 4.
- Signalis (PS4). rose-engine's retro survival horror, Metacritic 81 Generally Favorable across 32 critic reviews with an 8.4 user score. Push Square called it an 8/10 "riveting" blend of classic Resident Evil and Silent Hill. The quiet gem of the month for horror fans.
A separate MARVEL Tokon: Fighting Souls PS Plus Pack (five profile avatars plus 20 in-game result-screen character poses) is claimable from August 6 through August 6, 2027. July's Essential games, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, For the King II, and CrossCode, stay claimable through Monday, August 3 before they rotate out.
Zenless Zone Zero's second anniversary gives a free S-Rank agent today, launches on Xbox PC
HoYoverse's Zenless Zone Zero dropped its Version 3.1 "The Long Goodbye" update overnight, and the official site confirms it is now live. The headline deal is the second-anniversary giveaway: every player can pick one of five limited S-Rank agents (Jane, Soldier 0 - Anby, Hugo, Trigger, or Lucia) plus that agent's matching exclusive W-Engine, along with 1,600 Polychromes and 20 Signal Searches (pulls), an anniversary avatar, and a title. Claim it any time during Version 3.1, which runs 42 days through September 9.
The update also adds the first Lumiflux-attribute agent, S-Rank Remielle Dan, alongside S-Rank Ice agent Sigrid, and a new permanent mode, Enigma of the Labyrinth: Operation Bagel.
The bigger platform news: ZZZ launches its Xbox PC (Microsoft Store) version today with Xbox Play Anywhere support and cross-play inside the Xbox ecosystem, and Xbox Game Pass members get a limited-time boost to the anniversary rewards. It is now on PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PC (Microsoft Store, Steam, Epic, and the HoYo launcher), iOS, and Android.
One honest caveat: ZZZ is a free-to-play gacha game (ESRB Teen, PEGI 12). The anniversary gift is in-game premium currency and characters you keep on your account, not a free-to-keep retail game. But a free top-tier agent plus 20 pulls is a genuinely large giveaway for anyone already playing or curious to start.
Epic: Foretales is in its final day free-to-keep, OTXO and Sol Cesto go free tomorrow
Foretales (Alkemi, $19.99, a narrative-driven card game, Metacritic 74 Mixed across 14 reviews, Steam Very Positive at 86% of 757) is free to keep on the Epic Games Store through tomorrow, Thursday, July 30 at 8am PT. Today is the last full day to claim it, as Generacion Xbox confirmed this morning.
Epic revealed the next pair the moment Foretales went live. Both are roguelites, and neither has been free on Epic before: OTXO ($14.99, a top-down action roguelite with a Hotline Miami feel, OpenCritic 73) and Sol Cesto ($13.99, a tactical roguelite with a row-pick grid mechanic). They go free Thursday, July 30 at 8am PT through Wednesday, August 6, per GameRant and Notebookcheck.
Steam: the Mound DLC giveaway ends this morning, Yet Another Zombie Defense HD wraps tomorrow
Two free-to-keep offers are closing out:
- The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu - Lost Explorers' Swords Pack ($4.99, a two-sword cosmetic DLC) is free to keep through today, Wednesday, July 29 at 10am PT, about two hours after this issue lands. It requires the base game The Mound ($29.99, currently 20% off at $23.99). Free-with-purchase flavor, not a standalone giveaway.
- Yet Another Zombie Defense HD ($3.99, a 2017 top-down zombie tower-defense shooter, Steam Very Positive at 82% of roughly 540 reviews, up to four-player online co-op, Steam Deck Playable) is free to keep through tomorrow, Thursday, July 30 at 10am PT. The giveaway celebrates the sequel, Yet Another Zombie Survivors, hitting 1.0 on August 20.
Steam's six-game free weekend and the Train Fest both ended Monday, July 27, so do not expect those to still be live. The next Steam event is the Cyberpunk Fest, August 3 through 10.
Xbox: For Honor stays free for everyone through August 4
For Honor (Ubisoft's 2017 melee fighter, Metacritic 78 Generally Favorable) remains free for ALL Xbox members with no Game Pass required through Tuesday, August 4. The rest of last week's Free Play Days round (Bleach Rebirth of Souls, Killing Floor 3, Metal Gear Solid, Tides of Tomorrow) has already ended. No new round has posted yet, and Free Play Days typically go live Thursday mornings, so watch tomorrow.
On the Game Pass side, Halo Campaign Evolved (Metacritic 82) is live now on Ultimate and PC Game Pass after yesterday's day-one launch. Looking ahead, the dark-fantasy extraction ARPG Mistfall Hunter arrives day-one tomorrow, and the pirate city-builder Corsair Cove hits PC Game Pass Friday, July 31 (OpenCritic confirms the July 31 launch).
