OTXO and Sol Cesto are free on Epic today, Mistfall Hunter hits Game Pass day one

Epic's July 30 swap lands OTXO (Metacritic 81) and Sol Cesto free to keep through August 6, Mistfall Hunter joins Game Pass Ultimate and PC day one with no critic reviews yet and a Mixed Steam launch, Prime's final July drop adds Zoria and Weakless on GOG, and Yet Another Zombie Defense HD ends its free-to-keep run this morning.
Epic: OTXO and Sol Cesto go free to keep today, through August 6
Epic's weekly swap flips at 8am PT today, and the new pair is worth claiming. OTXO ($14.99) and Sol Cesto ($13.99) are free to keep from today, July 30, through August 6 at 8am PDT. Neither has been given away on Epic before, and together they're worth $28.98 (GameRant).
OTXO is a 2023 top-down action roguelite from Lateralis Heavy Industries that wears its Hotline Miami influence openly: monochrome pixel art, a slow-motion Focus mode, and a soundtrack critics loved. It sits at Metacritic 81 Generally Favorable across 10 critic reviews (OpenCritic 69% Top Critic Average). The consensus: punchy, addictive gunplay, but the roguelite progression is thin and the visuals get cluttered when rooms fill up. If you like Hotline Miami, this is an easy claim.
Sol Cesto is the wild card. A tactical roguelite from French indie trio Tambouille (Goblinz Publishing) that left Early Access on April 10, 2026, it runs on a 4x4 grid: you pick a row, and a 25% chance decides which box you land in (monster, trap, chest, or heal). You bend the odds with "teeth" upgrades and items. Critic coverage is thin (The Games Machine scored it 78), but Polygon called it "one of 2026's best" and "the most hypnotizing game I've played so far this year." The honest split: players who like pushing their luck on visible percentages love it; reviews flag slow progression and a heavy RNG hand as the dividing line.
Foretales ($19.99, Metacritic 74), last week's solo freebie, ends this morning at 8am PT as the new pair takes over, so if you haven't grabbed it, the window closes the moment OTXO and Sol Cesto go live.
Game Pass: Mistfall Hunter launches day one, no critic reviews yet
Mistfall Hunter (Bellring Games, published by Skystone Games, the label co-founded by Diablo creator David Brevik) joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one today. It's a dark-fantasy PvPvE extraction ARPG with souls-like combat and ARPG gear progression, on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC with Play Anywhere. Game Pass covers the Standard Edition; buying outright runs $24.99 Standard / $39.99 Deluxe, with a 10% launch discount to $22.49 through August 12 (Pure Xbox, TheXboxHub).
The honest quality read: there is no Metacritic score yet, and Steam user reviews are sitting at Mixed at launch. Pure Xbox's roundup notes complaints about server latency, no OCE servers, and stuttering, alongside praise for the fluid souls-like combat. A few early players call the extraction loop unrewarding after a few hours. This is a "try it on Game Pass before you buy" game, not a slam-dunk, and that's exactly what a sub lets you do for free.
Prime Gaming: Zoria and Weakless close out July, both GOG and yours to keep
Prime's final July batch drops today, and both games redeem as GOG codes you keep forever.
Zoria: Age of Shattering (Tiny Trinket Games, March 2024, $24.99 on Steam) is a squad-based tactical RPG blending turn-based combat with outpost and follower management. It's divisive: Metacritic 70 Mixed/Average from a thin four-critic pool, OpenCritic 76 Top Critic Average but only 50% of critics recommend it, and Steam Mostly Positive at 77% of 536 reviews. Fans enjoy the systems depth and base-building; critics knock the polish and quality-of-life gaps. A solid free pickup if you want a crunchy CRPG and can tolerate some jank.
Weakless (Punk Notion, 2019) is a short puzzle-adventure starring two Weavelings, one blind and one deaf, that you switch between to solve puzzles. Steam Mostly Positive at 72% of 117 reviews, and Screen Rant gave it 7/10. The art and music get universal praise; the puzzles are easy and the runtime is roughly 2 to 5 hours, with some technical rough edges flagged at launch. A chill, pretty palate-cleanser at no cost.
Last call: Yet Another Zombie Defense HD ends its free run this morning
Yet Another Zombie Defense HD (Awesome Games Studio, 2017, $3.99) is free to keep on Steam, but it ends today, July 30 at 10am PT (1pm ET / 5pm UTC), about two hours after this issue lands. It's a top-down zombie tower-defense shooter with Steam Very Positive 82% across roughly 540 reviews, up to four-player online co-op, and Steam Workshop support. The giveaway celebrates the sequel, Yet Another Zombie Survivors, hitting 1.0 on August 20 (GameRant). Claim it now or it reverts to paid.
Two other live freebies to know: Foretales on Epic ends this morning at 8am PT (covered above), and For Honor (Ubisoft 2017, Metacritic 78) is still free for ALL Xbox members with no Game Pass required, through Tuesday, August 4 (Xbox Wire). No new Xbox Free Play Days round is confirmed as of this morning; the official post typically lands just after 8am PT. (A junk site recycled May's Deadside and Catan lineup under a July 30 date, so ignore that.)
Forward: Corsair Cove and 8 Game Pass departures tomorrow, PS Plus August on Monday
Tomorrow, Friday July 31, brings two things. Corsair Cove (Hooded Horse and Limbic Entertainment, pirate city builder with vertical cliff-face construction) launches on PC Game Pass day one plus Steam, Epic, and Microsoft Store. The same day, eight games leave Game Pass (on sale at 20%+ off until they go): Celeste (Metacritic 92), Crusader Kings 3, Mount and Blade 2 Bannerlord, Rain World, Sniper Elite Resistance, Back to the Dawn, My Friendly Neighborhood, and Whiskerwood (Polygon).
Monday, August 4 is the next big convergence: PS Plus August Essential goes live (Dying Light 2 Stay Human Reloaded Edition, the day-one co-op title Big Walk, and Signalis, Metacritic 81), Heretic + Hexen and Beast of Reincarnation (Game Freak, day one) join Game Pass, For Honor's free run ends, and the Steam Cyberpunk Fest opens August 3. July's PS Plus Essential (Modern Warfare III, For the King II, CrossCode) stays claimable through August 3.
That’s the reading for this issue.
